Our Founder
Hi I'm Emmanuel Dumay and I am originally from Haiti, in the years of 1985 my parents and I moved to the united states. I learned to achieve my goals without forgetting my life before I came to this advanced country, I completed my education, I have an MBA as well as a background in finance, however, I have been in real estate Professional for about twenty years, in coordination I was a real estate investor and a tax accountant for over fifteen years.
My Story
I started this organization out of love and goodwill, ‘Ebo Nabo’, as I have been and seen the differences in lives from two very different countries, when I was in the 4th grade in Haiti, something tragic happened that led me to reach for this organization to grow. There was a child, we were both the best and at the top of the class, we were always competing with each other educationally, and there was a time when the director of the school called him to the office and when he went he was told his parents couldn't pay for the school anymore, and that he could no longer be part of the education system, he hasn't been to school ever since, as they could not afford it anymore, that was the end of his school days.
He was a brilliant child. I've always wondered about him and how he did after that and what were his possible chances in life. I always asked myself, what could he have done with chances like mine, where I was fortunate enough to have parents that made choices like moving across the world to give me the ability? I always wondered how he would have turned out, unfortunately, I haven't been able to find him.
I do believe the world has enough goods for every single person, with just 98 cents a day that one would donate, that can make a major difference in somebody's life and this is why I start Ebo Nabo, to make people aware that just a little kindness can make a lifetime difference to someone else in need. My journey started when I decided to travel to Haiti and bought a lot of school supplies. I grew up knowing in my heart that the most encouraging thing I can do is to help children like my old childhood friend.
When I reached Haiti I distributed everything I took with me and the children was so happy, however, I was told even though they got the school supplies they would not be able to go to school because most parents can't afford it. I take this project very seriously by reaching out to people around me to figure out how we can help them and bring a remedy to this world. We have people helping on the grounds in Haiti where kids that cannot go to school can come to seek help and see a professional and friend to see if anything can be done. There was one particular woman that has a very touching inhuman story that I cannot erase from my mind, she cannot afford housing as a single mother, she has a 13-month-old, 4-year-old, an 8-year-old, and the oldest is 19, sadly the oldest is sick and has breast cancer. This family lives on top of a house, someone's roof, it is made of concrete, the owners of the site allow them to stay there. If you’d like more of a visual sense check out the website for pictures. When you look at the roof and the tent, it is thin and basic, when it's hot the heat affects the family a lot and causes them to not be able to sleep at night, when it rains it's terrible and unsafe, with time even the tent is unstable. Originally this mother came to us as one of the people seeking help to get her children an education, but from our professional perspective, we realized that education should not be a priority at this stage, as she does not have a safe comfortable home, as I said before there are very young children/toddlers, they have recently learned to walk and it is very dangerous as they could easily have an accident by falling off the roof. These are concerns that I can't turn a blind eye to, eventually, we realized that we can come together and find a way of renting a place and gather some money to buy some goods for her and resell them, that way she can stand on her own two feet and take care of her family. The school could be arranged after by your help and donations.
There are many similar situations, we have a goal of growing our organization, and reaching all around the world to help all, step by step. We also realized with time that some people do want to help but do not have access or know how to reach these people. We believe in having an organization for these causes, so we can connect many good people with the people in need, that way they can receive the help they need.
I strongly believe in hope and whatever one gives, is returned doubled. By helping somebody you're actually helping yourself, kindness makes a difference, for example, a very generous and kind man sponsored a child in Haiti, once the child knew who the man was and what he has done for him, the child was full of joy and said that the only thing he could do to repay this man is to pray for him and that is tremendously special. It is a blessing, don't ever forget if you are in a situation and you do good and be selfless, God would bless you, definitely help you and make your life easier.
